Dr Kate Absolom
Kate Absolom joined the Psychosocial Oncology and Clinical Practice Research Group in 2008
from the University of Sheffield. In Sheffield, Kate worked with the Late Effects Group
(LEGS) for four years and was involved with studies assessing quality of life and follow-up
care issues in young adult cancer survivors.
Previously, Kate studied psychology at Lancaster University and completed a Cancer Research
UK funded PhD at the University of Sheffield in 2006. This research explored patients’
views of follow-up care following treatment for childhood cancer.
When Kate joined the team in Leeds she initially worked as part of the COMPASS collaborative on a Strand 2 project assessing how health care professionals detect and manage emotional distress in cancer patients. She now works on the POCPRG Cancer Research UK programme grant and is involved with developing doctor training to guide the routine use of patient reported outcome measures in clinical practice.
