Alex Newsham

Senior Data Manager and Honorary Research Assistant

Alex joined the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre in Leeds in 2002, prior to which he spent a number of years working in the pharmaceutical industry before moving to the university sector to work for Professor Lesley Fallowfield's Psychosocial Oncology Group at Sussex University (now part of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School).

In addition to leading and advising on the implementation and development of the full gamut of data management activities and IT related technical solutions that facilitate the research of the Group, Alex is also a collaborator and co-investigator (in an I.T. capacity) on various studies conducted by the Group. He is also a regular contributor to the Group's teaching programme, providing instruction on all aspects of data management, database theory, data interrogation, data handling (including algorithms) database development (including programming) and management.

Alex's research interests concern the development and application of information technology in Cancer Research, with a growing interest in the use of web technologies as a tool in psychosocial oncology research.

Alex holds a BA(Hons) in Literature & Philosophy and an MA with Distinction in Modern Literatures from Birkbeck College, University of London.
