Lucy Ziegler joined the Psychosocial Oncology and Clinical Practice Research Group in 2008 from the University of Bradford where she had worked since 2001. Lucy's work in Bradford involved undertaking systematic reviews, developing and conducting both qualitative and quantitative research projects and teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate research modules.
Lucy is part of the COMPASS Collaborative, an NCRI supportive and palliative care research collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Edinburgh and Kings College London. The focus of Lucy's work within the collaborative is to evaluate existing measures of psychological distress and to help develop consensus regarding the most appropriate measures to identify and monitor distress in oncology. Lucy's background is in health research and she has a particular interest in the psychosocial consequences of cancer and chronic disease. The focus of Lucy's recent work and of her PhD (completed in 2006) is the psychosocial implications of head and neck cancer. Lucy has developed and validated a measurement instrument (The Psychosocial Impact Questionnaire) to identify and monitor psychosocial issues in head and neck cancer patients. The measure has been adopted in head and neck cancer research and further validation studies are planned to help define its clinical application. |
